Consideraciones históricas: Hedberg et al. (1947), ilustraron varias arenas en la Formación Freites en el área mayor de Oficina, designadas en orden descendente o las letras griegas Sigma, Rho, Mu y Lambda, y señalaron que la Arena Sigma, es de gran importancia en los trabajos de perforación de estructuras.
