Wheeler (1960), señaló la subdivisión de la Formación Agua Clara, en la región noroccidental del distrito Democracia, y nororiental del distrito Buchivocoa, en Falcón occidental. El Miembro Santiago superior, está constituido por una sección de lutitas típicas de la Formación Agua Clara, con pocas areniscas interestratificadas. Se encuentra bien expuesto en la Quebrada Santiago, al norte de Cerro Frío.
