Esta zona fue establecida por Hedberg y Pyre (1944) en la Formación Vidoño, estado Anzoátegui y reconocida por Sellier de Civrieux (1956, Léxico Estratigráfico de Venezuela, bajo "ORTIZ") en la Formación Guárico. Autores posteriores (Bolli, 1957-b; Stanley, 1960; Renz, 1962; Lamb, 1964-b) han preferido zonaciones a base de foraminíferos planctónicos, y el término ha caído en desuso.
