Consideraciones históricas: Van Raadshoven (1951), publicó originalmente el nombre de Caliza de Quebrada Grande, para designar un desarrollo local de calizas con orbitoideos, asociadas a los sedimentos de la Formación Misoa en la quebrada Grande, afluente del río Misoa, distrito Baralt del estado Zulia y denominadas anteriormente Segundo Nivel de Orbitoideos. Dicho autor describió el contenido de foraminíferos grandes, asignándole una edad Eoceno medio inferior.
