Consideraciones históricas: Este nombre fue introducido por Szenk (1959), para designar el miembro inferior de los cinco en los cuales subdividió a la Formacion Lagunillas, en la parte central del lago de Maracaibo. El Miembro Marlago equivale allí al Miembro Lagunillas Inferior, reconocido al este, en los campos costaneros del Distrito Bolívar.
