Consideraciones históricas: Miller y Sanjuan (1963) designaron con este nombre, al miembro inferior arenoso de la Formacion La Sierra, a base de afloramientos tipo, cerca de la antigua hacienda colonial de Los Tanques, 20 km al oeste de La Villa de Rosario en Zulia occidental. Sanjuan (1964) detalló su litología.
