Senn (1940, p. 1580) empleó indiferentemente los nombres Arenas de El Mene de Acosta y Formación El Mene de Acosta para referirse a su anterior Formación de arena El Mene ("El Mene-sandformation") (Senn, 1935). El término es sinónimo del Miembro de Arenas de El Salto, mejor definido.
