Esee nombre fue publicado por Staff of Caribbean Petroleum Company (1948) para designar la sección eocena del subsuelo en los campos Concepción-Mara-La Paz, Estado Zulia. Brondijk (1967-b) y Walton (1967) consideraron la unidad como miembro informal de la Formación Misoa.
