Consideraciones históricas: Borger (1952) publicó originalmente el término Miembro Alpha, para designar el miembro superior de los ocho en que se ha dividido la Formación Quiriquire. La sección tipo está en el pozo Q-228, en la parte centro oriental del campo petrolífero de Quiriquire, distrito Piar, estado Monagas. Parte de la unidad aflora al norte del campo.
