Original reference: C. Wiedenmayer, 1937, p. 69.

Original description: ibid.

Wiedenmayer (1937, p. 69) showed the stratigraphic units, which he called "tramos", in the vicinity of Coro, in the central part of the State of Falcón, in a detailed table. Among these he showed the "Tramo Valle or Querales" in the upper part of the lower Miocene. By indicating "Valle or Querales" for the unit, the synonymy of the two names remained established. Wiedenmayer showed that the type locality of the Valle is at the base of the "Mesa del Saladillo" in central Falcón. He described the unit as gray laminated, uniform and foraminiferal clays, deposited in quiet, shallow marine waters. Wiedenmayer mentioned a thickness of 450 meters for the unit. On Wiedenmayer's table, the Valle is assigned an upper lower Miocene age. Being a synonym of the Querales formation, its age must be considered as upper Oligocene and lower Miocene.
