The name Sucre Group was introduced by H. D. Hedberg for the entire sequence of Lower Cretaceous formations below the Upper Cretaceous Querecual formation (Guayuta Group) in the Serranía del Interior, Eastern Venezuela (Hedberg, 1950, p. 1185). It is a comprehensive term which embraces, from bottom to top, the Barranquín and the El Cantil formation of authors (=Borracha, Chimana, and Boquerón-Majagual formations); see Rod and Maync, 1954, p. 203.
