The name "couches du Río Jobal" (Río Jobal beds) was introduced by Mme. de Cizancourt (1951, p. 47) to designate an upper Eocene sequence located in the State of Gaúrico. According to the same author, the sequence is correlative to the Escuque and Soledad formations, in the Carache River section, State of Trujillo.
The unit here presented has not been described so far and its paleontological study is still unpublished.
Mme. de Cizancourt (personal information) owns an interesting faunal collection from this sention. Thus, she olans to finish up the study, which is now interruped, and to indicate the exact localites of such unit, which with the Mundo Nuevo and Tinajitas formations of eastern Venezuela. It is probable that the name Río Jobal, proposed by Mme. de Cizancourt, has only a local significance.
