From the upper part of the Río Chiquito, northeast Bolívar district, State of Zulia, Garner (1926, p. 682) described gray and brown carbonaceous shale, sandy shales and laminated sandstones which he called Río Chiquito formation, lower Miocene. Name obsolete. According to Sutton (1946, p. 1697) the Río Chiquito formation of Garner (1926, p. 682) refers to a section of La Rosa formation exposed along this river.
