"Patiecitos series" was proposed for conglomeratic sandstones, black shales and siliceous limestones in Quebrada Patiecitos on the north flank of the Serranía de San Luis near the village of Los Alambiques. Hodson (1926, p. 174) does not give an age correlation for the formation. Liddle (1928, p. 252) includes these beds in the middle Oligocene San Luis formation. Senn (1940, p. 1580) shows them as lower Oligocene underlying the San Luis. More recently, petroleum geologists have interpretad the 'Patiecitos as a lateral facies bordering the San Luis reef, and as a formation within the Mitare group (see).
