C. J. Maury (1925, p. 413) mentions the Urupu beds, near Guanacoco, State of Sucre, as representing the Turonian stage in Venezuela, but gives no lithologic description. These beds probably belong to the Querecual formation, inasmuch as they contain, according to Maury, Inoceramus labiatus Schloth.

The name now is not in use.
