EL RODEO, Formation

TERTIARY (Miocene and ?Pliocene)

State of Zulia, Venezuela

Author of name: unknown.

Original reference: H. D. Hedberg and L. C. Sass, 1937, p. 95.

Original description: none published.

In the published literature, the only evident of the name "El Rodeo" is made by Hedberg and Sass (1937, p. 95), who refer to "prominent Arrimpia-El Rodeo (mispelled: Arrimpia-El Rodeo) sandstone ridges" eastward from the outcrop area of the El Fausto group sediments.

Various reference using the term El Rodeo are found in published private reports dated in the decade 1920-1930. The name originates with the "finca" El Rodeo located about 18 kilometers southwest of La Villa del Rosario, District of Perijá. Definition is inexact; at times only the Los Ranchos formation seems to be included, at times the Los Ranchos and La Villa (and possibly the El Fausto). The term presently is in disuse.
