Original description: ibid.
R. A. Liddle (1946, p. 449) introduced this name for some beds north and west of Rancho Casupal, District of Silva, State of Falcón. He includes them into the Socorro and Cerro Pelado formations and states that they are also called Lower Agua Salada beds. The Casupal beds consist of sandstones, locally petroliferous, lignitic shales and clays resembling the beds outcropping at Curamichate. The Casupal beds "...are well exposed in the courses of Río de los Cumarebos and Río Guachapana which join the Rancho Casupal to form the Río Agua Linda, which continues on southeast to enter Río Aroa".
The Casupal beds are synonymous with the Bachacal formation (Seen, 1935, p. 82; 1940, p. 1580) and for reasons of priority, Casupal beds becomes an obsolete name.
