The comprehensive term Cuarigua group, introduced by . od in 1952 and published in 1954 od and Maync, 1954, p. 215), includes the Capacho, La Luna, and Colón formations ina a monotonous shale-marl-limestone facies (region Carora-Barquisimeto). Its thickness is estimated to attain at least 1000-1500 m.
The name is derived from the village Curarigua, Lara.
